Foreign affairs of Theodia
This article sums up the state of the Republic of Theodia's foreign affairs.
This article was current as of 2013 November, and reflects the topic as it was at that time.
Theodia, before it ratified its original constitution, did not actively seek membership in micronational organizations or recognition from other micronations (although it did practice a little diplomatic interventionism). During the Theodian Dark Age and somewhat into the Golden Era, the country avoided relations with other countries. Mid-2011, Theodia opened itself up and joined the OAM, and later cessioned Underwoodia. Interest in foreign affairs declined by the end of 2011, and for much of 2012, was nearly non-existant. Post-voiding of the constitution, Theodia became much more active in diplomacy, due to its new ministry of foreign affairs and its founder, Axel Nielson. However, this was not to last, as Axel passed away in late 2012, and the country has since been overall diplomatically uninvolved.
Ministry of External Affairs
The Republic of Theodia has a fairly low-profile Ministry of External Affairs, which is divided into two departments: Foreign Relations, and Intelligence. The former is charged with conducting relations on behalf of the Republic; the latter is charged with gathering useful information on other countries to assist Theodia in making internationally informed decisions.
Currently, the Republic's executive is operating in super-fallback mode, meaning all ministers are capable of exercising authority in all ministries.
The Department of Foreign Relations was founded by Min. Axel-Nielson in 2012 as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was reorganized into its current form in mid-2013 during the transition into a republic. Before Axel, all foreign affairs were conducted directly by the reigning quing.
Under Axel Nielson, the Core Policies (which outlined the Ministry's legal duties, powers and restrictions) and the Organization and Layout document (which describes the internal structure of the Ministry) were designed and implemented, in addition to a training program for recruits. These were all lost with hir passing.
After Axel's death, the quing again acted as the Min-FR (Minister of Foreign Relations), until Min. Narba volunteered in 2013's June. Min. Narba later stepped down from the position, on 2013-07-12, citing events going on in hir life that would prevent hir from being able to act as Theodia's Min-FR for the foreseeable future. The same day, Min. Pairda stepped up to the position and held it until se was released from the executive a day later. The day after (2013-07-14), Swena devised the executive super-fallback mode and set the branch's operation to it, thus allowing all ministers to perform functions of foreign affairs.
The Republic of Theodia, throughout its history, has always been in support of preserving historical records, has always been against senseless and unnecessary acts of war, has advocated integrity and truth, and has been open to diplomatic relations with most nations. Its economic philosophies are truly unique and cannot be as easily descibed with terms like "socialist" and "capitalist" as many others.
There are many possible clauses that can be added onto treaties. Any page expressing each one in detail would be unwieldly, so here the most common ones have been simplified and displayed in a chart. The individual treaties are linked to in another chart, to be found below the main one. Sometimes, diplomatic actions have been done without a treaty, such as with simple acts of mutual recognition. Similarly, in Theodia's early days, most diplomacy was done via emails rather than formal treaties. These will not be linked to, as they are not treaties, or even necessarily available. Thankfully, the majority of them were designed as simple guarantees of recognition and peace, meaning that they fit neatly into the main chart in this article.
The Republic of Theodia automatically recognizes the sovereignty of all nations that are a part of the UN or UNPO. Further, Theodia automatically unrecognizes nations the moment they go defunct.
Please realize that the chart only keeps track of Theodian relations (ie, the chart only considers whether Theodia recognizes a nation; it pays no heed to whether a foreign micronation currently recognizes Theodia). However, an asterisk (*) after a country indicates that it agreed to mutual recognition with Theodia at the date indicated.
