The Kingdom of Jirmania (Français: Le Royaume de Jirmania, Deutsch: Königreich Jirmania) is a predominantly non-territorial (micro)nation. The nation itself was founded in September 2002. The Kingdom as an institutionalized state was established on 15 August 2004.

Raison d’etre

In the first place, Jirmania tends to be the federation of independent individuals with the strong emphasis on the concept of negative freedom. Philosophically, the conception of the Kingdom is based on the classical western liberal political thinking.

The leading principle of the Jirmanian constitution is the minimisation and internal neutrality of the state. This includes the concept of secularism and strict refusal of all abstract ideologies.

Unlike most micronations, Jirmania is built as a neutral platform for various independent citizen projects. Its aim is not building a utopian society nor promoting particular policies. Instead, the Kingdom is ready to shield and sponsor the creative projects of the citizens. In this sense, the role of the Kingdom is providing the citizens with a “form” and not imposing particular “content” (assuming that the projects will be compatible with the constitution and elementary Jirmanian principles). On the other hand, many other, ideologically and narrowly-defined, nations are regarded as immoral and ignoring the natural character of societies.

By analogy to the concept of liberal state of which the primary purpose is the security of the citizens, the Jirmanian constitution promotes the principle of refuge. Given that Jirmania is a non-territorial nation incapable of enforcing security in the physical dimension, its aim is providing adequate conditions for the individual development of human thinking, especially in the absurd environment of postmodern macronational reality.

Symbols

The state symbols represent sovereignty of the Kingdom and its most important values. Considering the profound Jirmanian principle of refuge, the identity reinforcing role of the state symbols is of great importance because their presence indicates that particular independent project has been officially recognized and accepted by the Kingdom. The symbols are furthermore used by the monarchy and state institutions.

Coat of arms

The Coat of arms was created in 2004 and slightly redesigned two years later to meet common standards of heraldry. The emblem itself represents the birth of the Jirmanian idea. Additional elements are national colours (blue and silver), national motto, the crown, the flag, and heraldic figures symbolizing the ethereal nature of the Kingdom.

Flag

The flag was created in the 1990s so it is actually older than the Kingdom itself. The Flag is a symbolic representation of connection, harmony, and order of eternity which is both persistent and frail. Alternatively, it is a image of the Jirmanian homeland, featuring the stylized image of a mountain in time of sunset. The first flying of the flag above the Jirmanian territory occured on 1 April 2005 (since then known as “The Day of the Flag”).

National anthem

The anthem Jirmania Forever is an original melody composed by Mr Jan Bartos. It was officialy adopted on 24 March 2005 (“The Day of the Anthem”).

Government

The Jirmanian government currently consists of the sovereign and appointed chancellors and officials. The constitution is based on custom law and traditions. The decisions are achieved consensually by cooperation of the Crown and the Body of citizens. The new constitution is being prepared which shall feature flexible rules of representation and governance dependent on current number of citizens.

Territory

Jirmania is primarily a non-territorial nation but future foundation of official Jirmanian territories is likely.

According to the Jirmanian territorial paradigm, all Jirmanian territories will have to be in private property. Jirmania strictly refuses all unrealistic territorial claims. Moreover, peaceful existence of a micronational territory within the macronational system will be supported and legal ways of secession will not be pursued. Jirmanian principles are based on philosophical or conceptual independence; the status of physical independence is not the case.
